 Scalp micropigmentation (SMP)  is a non-invasive treatment that uses carefully crafted micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp that will replicate the look of hair follicles. This will help thicken and restore the look of fuller hair by creating the appearance of hair follicles that blend seamlessly with any skin complexion and existing hair. If you are starting to thin, recede, or if you are completely bald, we can give you the look of a short buzz cut in men, or fade the appearance of a wide part, and restore a thicker look to sparse edges and thinning temples in women.   

Scalp micropigmentation is not a one treatment process. Most clients can expect between 2-4 sessions to complete their treatment depending on the extent of hair loss or scarring. These treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days apart to allow the skin to renew and the pigment to acclimate. 

The scalp micropigmentation treatment typically takes 2-4 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss. The first session will typically take the longest with follow-up sessions requiring less time. Follow-up sessions will increase the density, allow for adjustments to the hairline design and further blend the replicated follicles to the existing hair.

Scalp micropigmentation is a form of permanent cosmetics or permanent makeup (PMU). Often referred to as a hair or scalp tattoo, this treatment typically lasts 5 to 7 years. The use of carbon based pigment ensures no color changing, but lightening does occur over time.

After your initial 2-4 session treatment, your SMP impressions will remain visibly pigmented for up to 7 years. After 4-6 years you will notice the impressions lightening, signaling the need for a touch up to restore the fuller, denser look. You can extend the longevity of your SMP by regularly using SPF topically, moisturizing and exfoliating as part of your skin and hair care routine. There are many different brands and designs of the specialized SMP machine, and equipment includes a digital power source, a hand-piece, and disposable micro-needles for the insertion of pigment. Most SMP practitioners use different equipment than standard tattoo artists to ensure the deposits are delicately and specifically placed at the appropriate depth in the skin for the most natural looking result. All equipment is sanitized prior to service and  properly wrapped and covered for the utmost safety of our clients.

Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple of days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear immediately after treatment if desired. You will leave the treatment session with fuller looking hair, more confidence and ready to show off your new look!

Keep in mind pain thresholds are different for every person. For most clients discomfort is minimal, but it is to be expected. With ink impressions placed less deep in the skin than traditional tattooing, SMP is considered by most significantly less painful. Yes, many clients are using SMP for scar camouflage. We will flawlessly fade your scar back into your existing hair. We specialize in covering up FUE/FUT and other scars on your scalp. To avoid over saturation, scar camouflage typically requires the most SMP sessions, between 3-4, with less density per session to ensure a seamless result over the firmer skin. SMP is fast becoming the first stop for beating hair loss.

Yes, those with gray hair can still benefit from the scalp micropigmentation procedure. Most male clients are recommended to cut their hair to a short buzzed length. When this is done, gray hair does not appear as gray because the hair root itself is darker, appearing black. Hair only shows gray as it gets longer. We use a gray-scale pigment that can be adjusted in shade to blend with lighter hair tones. We simply create a lighter dilution for blending into the existing gray hairs. SMP even works on those with reddish or blondish toned hair.

Scalp micropigmentation as a treatment will not restore hair growth that has been lost. For men, the SMP treatment will give you the look of short hair or a tight buzz-cut. For women, SMP will camouflage thinning parts, crowns, or sparse edges and temples. If hair loss begins to reverse due to other treatments, SMP impressions will not impede any new hair growth.
